Ramsey had his first NJB All-Net game last night 5-6pm in Saratoga. The opposing team has 2 players from his SVBC team (should have been 3 but one is injured and withdrew) and I was surprised that most of the Saratoga team is Asian. Ram is the only non-100% white kid on his team…which is so different from the Saratoga team. Ram did not start the game and Hen and I went to the game thinking that Ram wouldn't get a lot of play time. Oh my! Ramsey played most of the 2nd, 3rd the 4th periods and had more play time than 2 other players (there were 7 on his team total). We are both so proud that he played well that his coach
Hendrik is my ghost writer: Ramsey made us so proud by working up to NJB All Net which is the All Star team for basketball. He's tried out twice in the past and did not make the team (5th and 6th grade) but he worked hard and finally made it on the team. This is a long way from when he started playing NJB back in 4th grader when he was the bottom half of one of the 6 regular (divisional) teams. Lots of hard work and continued focus on fundamentals culminated in this achievement. During this game he came off the bench and proved that he belonged by playing dogged defense and scoring 7 of the 44 points. All in all he did a good job of getting open looks at the basket and helping move the ball around. On defense he was the big communicator (Bernice here: I could hear Ram's voice all through the time he was playing defense but I had no idea what he was saying. After the game Hen told me he said stuff like, "Pick on the right! Switch! Screen left!" all stuff that I didn't understand.) that helped shut down the other team during the decisive 3rd quarter run.
Notice that Ramsey is not tall for his team. He is actually the 2nd shortest kid on this team! Yes, height matters. I asked him how he got the #30 jersey. He said that the jerseys were passed out at the Sat 12/5 practice which he missed due to soccer and he got what was left. It's a fairly small/snug uniform too.
I need a new camera body so badly. It is near impossible to take indoor basketball pictures with my existing DSLR. I want a new camera body!
After the game, Hen had to drop something off at Juan Carlos' house. I asked Ram if he wanted to go home with Ant and I and Ram replied, "No I'll ride with Hen so we can talk about the game." Yes, he really enjoys his dad's post game analysis and commentary!
