Our Weekend 12/5-6

Friday at 3:20 I get a phone call from Ram. He says, "Mom I'm at Sports Authority (nope he is at Big 5) can I buy a mouth guard for myself?" Yes, responsible Ram! His Hillview basketball coach said no one can play in the game unless they have a mouth guard and I have been forgetful about going out to get him one. Thank goodness he is responsible (and that we gave him $20 to put in his backpack for emergencies) and stopped to buy one… And here he is molding his mouth guard.

Ramsey's first Hillview game was Fri 12/4 at 4:40pm. His team was doing well (and mostly ahead) of the other team until the last 3 minutes when the other team just took off. Ram's team lost by 10 points.

Sat 12/5 was crazy busy. Ramsey had 3 soccer games (his AYSO team made the playoffs as the 13th seed out of 16 qualifying teams in the region, not city) at 9:45, 12:30 and 3:15 in Mountain View. The 9:45 and 3:15 games were at the same field (near where SVBC basketball practice is) and the 12:30 game was at a field near the Google headquarters -- beautiful turf field which was funded/built by Google for the city of Mountain View…geesh. The boys lost the first game 4-0, lost the second game 3-0 and won the last game 3-4 and Michael made 3 of the 4 goals. Meanwhile, Hendrik took Anthony to his Encinal basketball game (first one) at 8:55am and sadly his team lost and lost big by about 30 points. Hen said Ant had 6 points and he loves to shoot but doesn't make a lot of baskets. Hen needs to work with Ant on his shooting, ha ha.

I did a lot of driving on Saturday: 9:00 drive Ram and Michael to the field. We went home after that game for lunch (QUICK one) and then drive back to the field. I didn't watch the entirety of his 2nd game as I had to leave to go to a required parent meeting (which was what I thought it would be, a plea for $ donations and volunteer time) for Ramsey's robotics team at the high school. Hen couldn't be at that 2nd game because he had to take Ant to his Alpine Strikers tryouts for spring (there are 4 tryouts on 12/5, 12/6, 12/12 and 12/13 that he is required to go to) so Ram and Michael stayed with Nate's parents after the 2nd game and had their end-of-season celebration which I brought hummus and carrots and cookies for. As I was driving to the 3rd game, I had to take the above pic as I was stopped at a major intersection at the stop light. The woman next to me is reading her newspaper! See how crowded her car and dashboard are?! Really? You are reading while driving?? Reading at stoplights while driving??

The boys won the 3rd game and were really happy. They had donuts after the 3rd game. It was 4:15 and I rushed Ram and Michael out of there and back home where they had 5 minutes to change...

…and we all went to Sophie's aerial acrobatic performance at M-A High School. I didn't get a pic of her segment but she wore the tailcoat I sewed (see the post from last weekend) and she looked great. Owen and his family were there too and the middle school boys + Ant immediately wanted to sit in their own row away from us parents. :)

Here's Ant being silly as we were leaving the show. He wanted to jump from every planter box thing.

Our night was not over yet! We went home and I made a salad and we all went to Juan Carlos' house for a dinner playdate. We didn't get home until 9:30 (Ant and I) and 10:00 (Hen, Ram and Michael).

The boys set out their clogs for Sinterklaas's visit and since Michael was sleeping over at our house (his sister was in the Div I high school volleyball state championship game (sadly they lost) in Orange County and both parents went to the game) he set out his shoes by the fireplace along with the boys' clogs.

Ant and Ram in the morning of 12/6. Ant got up at his usual 6:50am and came to snuggle with us at 7. He remembered Sinterklaas because he was scrolling through pictures on my phone…and rushed out to find his loot. Ramsey woke up not long after Ant was rustling around and found his loot too.

Michael woke up groggy and found his loot too. All the boys got a puzzle and a puzzle book and LOTS of candy. I let each boy eat 2 pieces before breakfast and by the time Michael left at 11am when his parents got back, he had eaten HALF of his candy loot. He had even started with the head of the chocolate Santa Claus. Meanwhile, neither of our boys have eaten any except the two pieces they had before breakfast. I'm going to bet that Ramsey's candy will still be intact by the end of January!

There was a lot of airplane folding at our house on Sunday morning. Hen left with Ant to soccer tryouts from 9:45-11:15 and after Michael left about 10:35, Ram and I folded airplanes together while watching videos on YouTube. Ram really wanted to do it together and while I had a lot to do chore-wise, I decided to sit with him and we folded airplanes together for an hour!

When Hen and Ant got home, Hen, Ram and I went out to Nami's house to pick up their dining room table. They bought a new table and had listed their table and chairs for sale but no one was buying. They were going to give it away to their house cleaners but asked us first. We loved our existing dining table but with the boys growing bigger, their legs hit each others' under the table all the time.  You should hear the arguments, "Ram is on my side!" "Get back on your side!" "Move your big feet!" So…while we weren't going to immediately buy a new table, we were thinking we need to do so in the near future. We left Ant at home because he was GROUCHY (late night, not enough sleep). When we got home with the table, Ant says, "I'm HUNGRY. Feed me!" I had prepped chicken salad and we all quickly ate chicken salad sandwiches and then...

…I took Ant to his basketball practice from 1-2pm. His coach brought in (hired?) Coach Dele from Team Esface because I think he felt bad that the boys did so poorly in the first game on Saturday. Yikes. I felt bad that the coach hired a private coach (because Dele is not cheap) because the team they played on Saturday is a private school team and private school has different age cut offs from public school where most private school kids are 6-12 months older than public school kids of the same grade. Anthony's coach noticed that the private school team had hired a private coach and perhaps that's why he hired Coach Dele. Anyway, Dele remembered me/us and kept calling Ant "Ramsey's brother" or "Mini Ramsey" and eventually "Antonius" as a nickname. Dele worked the boys hard and thankfully Ant worked hard. He really tried and was focused and engaged which is how he is at school and with all sports coaches, teachers, etc, thankfully. On the way to basketball in the car, Ant says, "Moo-ey, I'm going to stay up on Christmas Eve until Santa arrives so I can meet him. I want a picture with him, me and you okay? And I want to meet his reindeer. Do you think he'll bring all his reindeer? How does he fit all the presents in his sleigh? I bet he delivers and then goes home to the North Pole to get more and then delivers again. Wow, he must be busy that night. Moo-ey I'm going to stay up okay?" Oh boy.

Nami's husband helped us move the dining table into our house and he saw Ramsey's drone and was asking about it. We told him it's not working because of a loose wire and asked if he has a soldering iron. Yes he does. We told Ram he could bike back to their house to borrow their soldering iron. Ram was on it! He got on his bike and came back with Terry's soldering iron and supplies and while I was out with Ant at his basketball practice, Hen and Ram soldered the loose wire back into the electronics board of his drone and it now works again. Ram is **SO** happy he can fly his drone again. I noticed after I took this pic that you can see into our compost can/bin on our kitchen counter…oops!

IMG_4998IMG_4999

After Ant finished basketball, I took him to Reilly's 8th birthday party 2-4:30. Hen and Ram were home and we finished reassembling the dining table. We have our old dining chairs and one new dining chair by the table and are trying to decide which chairs to use. Meanwhile, we pushed our square table to the corner. Hen took Ram to his Hillview basketball practice from 3-4pm and then took him to his first NJB All-Net game in Saratoga which started at 5pm. I picked up Ant from Reilly's and we went to the game also. I'll put up a separate post because the basketball pics are still on my DSLR camera and the transfer cord is in Ramsey's room he's currently sleeping.

When we got home from Ram's game, Ant immediately started his Sinterklaas puzzle. Isn't he sweet?

IMG_5002

Here's our family eating dinner at the new table. We have a *lot* more room under the table now. Hen said Ram and I have to sit across from each other because we are about the same size. Hen and Ant have to sit across from each other because long legs and short legs go together. Hen was going to suggest that Hen and I sit next to each other when Ant declares, "I sit next to Mom!" He's still such a mama's boy.
