Junior Cup Soccer Tournament - Day 1 Nov 21

Since Anthony's soccer team was in the championship game for their division two weeks ago at the District Cup, they qualified for the Junior Cup. His club (Alpine Strikers) pays for the tournament fees for this tournament because it is one the kids have to QUALIFY for. Yay. One more tournament. His games were 9:30am and 12:30pm. He played offense for the first half of the first game and made the first of 2 goals (and the game ended in a tie, an unfair tie due to the referee calling a hand ball on Ant's team which led to a penalty/direct kick which the ref didn't even let Ant's team set up for so the kick went in to tie the game) and the above 5 pics are of Ant's goal. I never got the shot of the actual ball going in…but you can imagine it right?

Above: Ant high-five-ing Calder who is a guest player from a younger team (yes he is only 7) who just made the second goal of the first game (and Ant claims he made the assist for that goal…I think he did).

Between the two games, the boys sat on the bleachers with the coach. He led them in a game of charades. In the above pic, Ant is acting out "eagle" but everyone yelled out "duck!!!" because everyone knows how much Ant likes ducks. The next one he got to act out was a cheetah. You should have seen his cheetah, it looked like a bear but someone guessed cheetah, how I don't know...

They changed to their red unis (and Ant is already wearing the goalie shirt which ironically says AYSO because Coach Ray got it from someone and likes this shirt for goalies because there are elbow pads) and had  bit of Minecraft time on Max's iPad.

Ant played goalie for the entire second game. The other team (black) was **so** good that we (the parents) were afraid we'd lose so badly. In the end we didn't lose too bad, 2-1 though we had a goal go in at the last minute which the ref (again, bad ref-ing) said it didn't count because there was a hand in the way of that goal. Sigh. Ant did great as goalie and saved quite a few…except in the first minute of the game when the other team started off with quite a bang.

Unexpectedly the team didn't come across holding each other's shoulders and bow and clap for the parents. The team was pretty sad to lose and the boy who made the goal which didn't count (Olivier) was crying. They have another game at 9:30 am tomorrow (arrive 9am which means leaving here at 8:10 for Morgan Hill) and depending on the standings they may have a championship game at 12:30. Hen got our family tickets to see the Big Game tonight (Stanford vs Cal at Stanford, go Cal!!!) 7:30pm but Ant said he really didn't want to go because he wants to rest for tomorrow's soccer games. So I am home with him and Hen and Ram biked off to Stanford in the dark with their blinking bicycle lights. I'm a bit sad that I couldn't go because it is a Stanford vs Cal (go Cal!!!) game…and these are the 50 yard line tickets too (Hen's company's investor has 16+ tickets this season and frequently can't use them all).
