Two 3rd grade classes at Laurel School are involved in a real-life project to provide the City of Menlo Park and Stanford University (who owns the land) input on the proposed new park/public space called Middle Plaza. This morning the two classes presented their ideas to the city and Stanford:
The multi purpose room at Laurel School got new flooring this fall. Previously it was dark gray carpet. I thought it is so sweet that Ayden and Anthony sit next to each other. They see each other literally every day -- school and then sports on the weekend. They are on the same soccer team and baseball team. It's cute that they are together all the time.
The project background shows how our communities change over time(see the old picture of Laurel School from the 1950s) and how input is needed for the new Middle Plaza located on the west side of the Caltrain tracks at where Middle Ave ends into El Camino Real (red square in upper right pic).
The kids worked in groups of 2 or 3 and came up with a plan of what they feel is important for the new park/public space. Anthony wanted a duck pond (of course) and has influenced enough kids the most of the 7 groups from his class included a duck pond in their proposal. Ha ha. I thought he should have worn his new duck shirt for the presentation but he said, "I want to wear my comfy sports clothes."
