Amazing Ant at Soccer

IMG_3872

Anthony's team was entered in a soccer tournament this weekend 10/24-10/25. I was able to go to the two games on Saturday 1:10-2:10 (tied 3-3) and 5:50-6:50 (tied 3-3) and was really proud of Anthony who played well. He scored 3 goals on Saturday and played well offensively and defensively. He looked fast out there.

I went to Ramsey's baseball games and Hendrik took Anthony to his Sunday 9:10-10:10am game, tied 0-0. Even though his team did not win any of the 3 seeding games, they were able to play in the championship game because of the number of goals scored exceeded the other teams' goals. Their championship game was 12:45-1:45. Hen texted me that the game ended in a 1-1 tie and Anthony scored their team's 1 goal in the last few seconds or minute (and had 7-8 other shots at goal during the game). In order to determine the game winner, it went into penalty kicks. Each side has 5 players kick one goal with one defending goalie. Anthony's team had Benjamin play goalie the whole championship game but Benjamin told Anthony to be the goalie for the penalty kicks because Anthony is taller. Each side switches off for the penalty kicks. So, it went something like this: other team kicks one past Anthony 0-1, Ayden (Anthony's team) kicks one past the other goalie 1-1, other team kicks one past Anthony 1-2, Issac (Anthony's team) kicks one past the other goalie 2-2, other team kicks one past Anthony 2-3, Benjamin kicks one past the other goalie 3-3, other team kicks one past Anthony 3-4, Arhaan (Anthony's team) kicks one past the other goalie 4-4, ANTHONY SAVES A GOAL (!!!!) 4-4 …. AND ANTHONY KICKS ONE PAST THE OTHER GOALIE to win the game 5-4!!!! Ayden's mom told me today that Anthony was on fire all weekend (played really well) and everyone was so happy when he made the goal (her description: "Arhaan kicked it toward the goal and everyone was chasing that ball, it wasn't going to go in and here comes Anthony RUNNING and taps the ball in just before everyone else got there"), saved a goal and made the winning penalty kick/goal!

At the end of every game, the coach has the boys link hands and walk towards the parents, take a bow and clap for the parents (to bring the boys for all the practices and games). Well apparently after this last game, the boys lined up and took their bow and then Coach Ray had Anthony step forward in front of all the other boys and take a singular bow! Wow!!! And the only pictures Hendrik took was the one at the top of this post with Anthony wearing the hard hat (for the player who works the hardest at each game or practice), holding the trophy and holding the jack o lantern pumpkin from the coach for the MVP! I wish I had other pics, say of the penalty kicks or of Ant in front of all the boys.

Hen said Ant was riding a high and was so happy. On the way home, he said to Hen, "My heart is still beating so fast!" What a happy boy.

I didn't see him until 8:30pm. Ram and I had arrived home at 4:45pm and left again at 5:40pm for SVBC basketball (during which I sat at Starbucks uploading pics and writing some blog posts) while Ant was at Robby's house 4:15-7:00. When Ram and I got home at 8:30, Ant opened the front door and was so happy to show me his medal from the soccer tournament. He said, "This is the first tournament that I've won Mommy." Yes, happy Ant. He wanted to wear his medal to school but I suggested he take it off and he said yes.
