During the return leg of our summer road trip, I wanted the boys to do their math worksheets (for Ramsey) and workbook (for Anthony). Anthony refused to do it and had a huge temper tantrum. I remember we were driving on I-80 in the middle of Wyoming (actually from Laramie) to Salt Lake City, Utah. Ant was screaming and yelling and called us all the insults he could think of ("You're the worst Mommy in the world! You're the worst Daddy in the world! I don't like ANYBODY in this family!") and Hen sat in the second row of the minivan next to him while he was tantruming. (Ramsey sat in the front passenger seat calmly working on his worksheets.) Well Hen offered Ant a carrot in the form of a new duck if he finished the workbook before we got home. That motivated him! He ended up learning multi digit multiplication (say 348 x 8, not something like 567 x 34) and learning multi digit division (example 478 / 8) and really understood those concepts. He earned his duck. (Though in his opinion he earned TWO ducks.) Hen ordered his new duck from Amazon.com and it arrived. Ant opened the box this morning before school. When he saw his duck was in a sealed plastic bag, he screamed, "Open the bag! He's suffocating!!!" He was so thrilled to meet his new duck which he immediate named Doug (brand is Melissa and Doug). He hugged the duck and it quacked and Ant exclaimed happily, "He quacks!!!" Doug is with the other 85+ animals scattered all over Ant's beds now.
